HF Condition Reports

// Used HF radio condition documentation

Replace “it works” with measurable condition.

HF transceivers are expensive, complex, and difficult to evaluate from a quick on-air check. Arcovex RF documents supported transmit, receive, electrical, and physical condition before sale, after purchase, or before deeper repair work.

A condition report is the preferred starting point for HF equipment. Full HF repair is accepted case by case after initial testing and review.

// 01 · Measurements

What may be tested

Scope depends on the radio, available accessories, supported modes, service information, and accepted test plan.

M-01 · PWR

RF output power

Transmit power across selected or all supported amateur HF bands.

M-02 · FREQ

Frequency accuracy

Carrier-frequency error compared with the available reference.

M-03 · RX

Receive checks

Basic receive-function checks on selected bands and modes.

M-04 · MODE

SSB / AM / FM function

Supported transmit and receive modes checked as appropriate.

M-05 · ATU

Tuner function

Internal tuner operation checked when fitted and practical.

M-06 · DC

Current draw

Receive and transmit current documented where useful.

M-07 · SPEC

Spectral sanity

Basic spectrum observations when supported and appropriate.

M-08 · VIS

Physical condition

Controls, connectors, display, modifications, photos, and visible concerns.

// 02 · Report logic

A baseline for the next decision

The report separates measurable condition from assumptions about repairability or future performance.

TEST

Measure supported functions

Start with repeatable observations across agreed bands, modes, and operating conditions.

DOC

Document the condition

Record measurements, test setup, visible issues, and clear summary findings.

NEXT

Choose the next step

Use the report to support a sale, purchase decision, baseline, or repair review.

// 03 · Pricing

Start with the right depth of evaluation

Pricing depends on radio complexity, supported accessories, band coverage, condition, and requested documentation.

Focused check

Basic transmit / receive check

$99–129

A concise operational baseline across an agreed set of bands and functions.

  • Focused transmit checks
  • Basic receive checks
  • Summary findings

Limited condition baseline

Fault review

HF diagnostic fee

$125 starting

Initial bench work to confirm a reported problem and assess practical next steps.

  • Fault confirmation
  • Initial measurements
  • Repair review when practical

Repair not included

Quote

Accepted only after condition or diagnostic review confirms suitable scope and risk.

  • Customer approval required
  • Parts billed separately
  • Availability varies

Not all radios accepted

Final pricing may change for unusual accessories, difficult setup, extensive warm-up testing, prior modifications, intermittent faults, or unavailable service information.

// 04 · Intake fit

Best results start with an honest history

Tell us what the radio has done, what changed, and what accessories are required to reproduce the concern.

A good fit for

  • Buyers evaluating used HF equipment
  • Sellers documenting measurable condition
  • Owners establishing a baseline
  • Radios with unknown service history
  • Equipment being reviewed before repair

Requires review before acceptance

  • Lightning or water damage
  • Severe prior modification
  • Previously failed repair attempts
  • Long warm-up intermittent faults
  • Vintage hybrid or tube equipment
